13 anti begging squads/teams are operation to apprehend the beggars from different places of Delhi including zero tolerance zones.
2 Mobile Courts have already become functional since 1.9.2009
The Department of Social Welfare is providing all basic and essential necessities to the inmates residing at beggars homes. The following services are being presently provided at the certified institutions:
Boarding and lodging - as per set scale & menu
Medical care - check up within 24 hours of admission & immediate referrals
Bio metric machines have been installed at RCC, Sewa Kutir to identify repeat offenders and to keep up to date record of beggars.
Department has also set up 20 bedded Drug-De-Addiction Centre in partnership with an NGO at beggars home, Lampur for the De-Toxification of inmates who beg due to their drug dependence.
Awareness generation against begging through different media, so that public desists from giving alms. Temple Committees, Gurudwara Prabandhak Committees and Railway Authorities have also been requested to help in anti begging campaign.
A number of Vocational Training Programmes are being run in the Institutions for enabling the Beggars inmates to seek gainful employment in the society after they are released from Certified Institutions. The following Vocational Training Programmes are being run:
Candle making; Gardening; cutting and tailoring; weaving; Drawing & Arts for the benefit of all beggars.
A Training cum production centre for Leprosy affected beggars is being run by the Department, which provides Vocational Training to the Leprosy affected beggars in the trade of Candle making; weaving, Pocha making etc.
A sheltered workshop for physically handicapped persons (leprosy affected) is also being run in the premises of Home at Tahirpur which provides Vocational training to the Leprosy affected beggars in the trade of candle making, weaving and Shoe Making.
