Special Schools run under the Department of Social Welfare, GNCTD

Department of Social Welfare is running Five Schools for Speech Hearing Impaired (SHI) Children, One School for Intellectual Disable (ID) Children & One School for Visually Impaired (VI) Children. 
The Department is also running two Hostels, one for the SHI Students (Girls & Boys) and second for the VI Students. The Government Lady Noyce School is Co-educational with the facility of education of the SHI Students from K.G. to XIIth class and separate boardings for Boys & Girls at Delhi Gate. The Nursery/Primary schools are also Co-educational but are for day scholars only. 
The medium of instructions in the schools is Hindi. SHI Students who are bonafied residents of Union Territory of Delhi are eligible for admission provided they do not have any other major disability. The admission/discharge will be undertaken by Principal/Vice Principal/Headmaster of the schools with the assistance of two teachers trained in the field of Special Education. The application forms duly filled and submitted along with the following documents:-

1.Certificate of Disabilities (as per Form No. VII issued under Rule 18 in respect of rights of persons with Disabilities Rules 2017) issued by competent Medical Authority.
2.Age group between 04-18 years (determined on the basis of Birth Certificate issued by MCD/NDMC.) for initial admission.
3.Residence proof of the applicant and his/her parents in NCT of Delhi.

The list of the Seven Schools run by the Department of Social Welfare is as under:-

1. School For Mentally Retarded Children (S.M.R.C.), Mayur Vihar, Ph-I, Delhi- 110091-- It is a special school meant for the Intellectual Disable (ID) Children and the age group is from Six to Eighteen. Occupational Therapist provides online therapy sessions to students presently. The strength of the students is- 51 (Girls- 14 & Boys- 37). The strength of the teachers is- 04 (Latest by Feb., 2022).

2. Nursery Primary School For The Deaf (N.P.S.D.), Mayur Vihar, Ph-I, Delhi- 110091- This school is running for Speech Hearing Impaired (SHI) Children from classes Nursery to Vth standard. The strength of the students is- 50 (Girls- 20 & Boys- 30). The strength of the teachers is- 02 (Latest by Feb., 2022).

3. Government Middle School For The Deaf (N.P.S.D.), Vishram Chowk, Sector- 4, Rohini, Delhi- 110085-- This school is running for Speech Hearing Impaired (SHI) Children from classes Nursery to VIIth standard. The strength of the students is- 197 (Girls- 87 & Boys- 110). The strength of the teachers is- 05 (Latest by Feb., 2022).

4. Government Lady Noyce Senior Secondary School For The Deaf & Dumb (G.L.N.S.S.S.D.D.), GLNS Complex, Delhi Gate, Delhi- 110002-- This school is running for Speech Hearing Impaired (SHI) Children from classes VIth to XIIth standard. The strength of the students is- 496 (Girls- 159 & Boys- 337). The strength of the teachers is- 17 (Latest by Feb., 2022).

5. Govt. Lady Noyce Nursery Primary School For The Deaf (G.L.N.N.P.S.D.), Nehru Vihar, Delhi- 110054-- This school is running for Speech Hearing Impaired (SHI) Children from Nursery to Vth standard. The strength of the students is- 155 (Girls- 58 & Boys- 97). The strength of the teachers is- 04 (Latest by Feb., 2022).

6. Government Secondary School For The Deaf (G.S.S.D.), B- Block PWD Barracks, Kalka Ji, New Delhi- 110019-- This school is running for Speech Hearing Impaired (SHI) children from classes Nursery to Xth standard. The strength of the students is- 275 (Girls- 125 & Boys- 150). The strength of the teachers is- 09 (Latest by Feb., 2022).

7. Government Senior Secondary School For The Blind Boys (G.S.S.S.B.B.), Sewa Kutir Complex, Kingsway Camp, Delhi- 110009-- The Department is running Visually Impaired (VI) from classes Ist to XIIth standard. The Department is also giving Hostel facilities free of cost to all the students of the school. The strength of the students is-  118 (All Boys). The strength of the teachers is- 09 (Latest by Feb., 2022).

Services for the children:-

1. Mid- Day- Meal:- Mid-Day-Meal is provided to the Children With Special Needs in the schools run by Department of Social Welfare, GNCTD upto the class VIIIth duly provided by Department of Education, GNCTD.
 

2. Text Book & Uniform Subsidies:- The children are provided subsidy as per provision of  Textbooks and Uniform Subsidies Ist to XIIth. As per the current revised rates of Department of Education for Text Books & Uniform Subsidy. 

3. Facility for Scholarship:- The children are provided scholarship as per provision of Delhi Govt. i.e. IXth to Xth – pre-metric scholarship for student with disabilities and XIth to XIIth- post –metric scholarship for student with disabilities and children are also provided 1000/- rs. for book grant & 2000/- rs. for disability allowance.

  1. IXth- Xth- 500/- per month for Day Scholar 

                          800/- per month for Hosteller 

  1. XIth- XIIth- 550/- per month for Day Scholar

           900/- per month for Hosteller

 

In the year 2019-20, 36 students applied for scholarship out of which 26 students got the scholarship and in year 2020-21 ,62 students applied for scholarship out which 48 students got the scholarship. 

4. Supportive Management Committee (SMC):-  Supportive Management Committee is being constituted in all Seven Spl. Schools of DSW. School Management Committee will ensure overall coordination between parent-teacher as well as civil society members to monitor the learning process of children.This will eventually improve  functioning of school by involving various stake-holders of civil society. 

The SMC is constituted in compliance to the directions of Hon’ble Minister (SW) for better hand holding of public-private stakeholders. 

5. DTC Bus Collaboration:- A collaboration with DTC bus service for transport facility to  Children With Special Needs (CWSN)  is ensured by providing the facility of Transport to all SHI Students  keeping in the mind that  Spl. Children needs to be safe, secure, reliable & served by professional drivers.
